1. You are not pregnant

It’s easy to panic when your period is delayed. Over-the-counter tests for pregnancy are not 100% accurate. Your body’s hormonal fluctuations can also make it difficult to determine if you’re pregnant.

It usually takes a woman 28 days to start her menstrual period, so if you are due to have your period today, it is likely too early for you to be pregnant. (Unless it started more than 5 days ago).

Your body prepares for pregnancy by thickening the lining of your uterus every month. If you’re worried about this happening to you, using Flo to track your menstrual cycle can give you insight into how often they occur over time. If you want to have regular periods, your doctor may recommend medication or lifestyle changes.

Other factors can cause late periods, including stress, low weight, and medical conditions such as polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. If you have any concerns, it is important to consult your doctor immediately. 2. You’re pregnant

A missed period is a major cause of worry and disruption. If your period is five days or more late, or if it fails completely, you should consider pregnancy as your first option. According to University College London research and other sources, pregnancy is the main cause of missed periods. Pregnant women are the most likely to miss their period or have it arrive late. Take a pregnancy test at home around the time your period normally starts if you have been trying to get pregnant but are not having any luck.

The home pregnancy test detects the presence of the human chorionic hormone (hCG), which is produced by fertilized eggs that implant in your uterus. Your levels of human-chorionic-gonadotropin (hCG), which are high, indicate an early stage of pregnancy. This may be indicated by cramps, fatigue and bloating.

Keep track of your cycle and record it. This will help you pinpoint the causes for missed period, such as stress, extreme diets/exercise regimes, hormonal contraceptives and low body weight. Maintaining records can reveal hidden problems; in some instances, they may even be reversed. If you suspect that you are pregnant, it is best to call your doctor and ask for a blood or urine test as soon as possible.

3. Twins are on the way

Stress, extreme exercise or diet, hormonal contraceptives, and other health conditions can all cause a woman to have a late period. Twin pregnancies can also cause late periods. It is possible that carrying multiple babies can alter your menstrual cycle. Spotting without cramping and active bleeding is not a cause for alarm.

Multiple pregnancies, no matter what the cause, is a life-changing event that should be celebrated. You should be proud of your accomplishments, whether they are due to fertility treatments, natural pregnancies or miscarriages. Enjoy this wonderful time in your life. It should bring you so much joy.
